Digital Impressioning: The Future is NOW
By Jenn Robertson
Lava COSThe concept of traditional tray and putty impressions being replaced by high tech photos or video digital impressions for lab fabrication has been an exciting innovation in dentistry for Gold Dust Dental Laboratory. Being involved in clinical and fabrication beta testing for a variety of manufacturers, we are acutely aware that any product or equipment must meet or exceed our current quality standards prior to integrating into our systems.

We are excited to announce that the technology of the following devices and products provided to the lab for fabrication meet our stringent quality requirements for reproduction of information, occlusal relationships, articulation and the fabrication platform for a variety of materials. Currently, Gold Dust has aquired its own C.O.S. system to ensure that it meets the same clinical ease-of-use and accuary that has been achieved on the lab side.
  • Video – 3M C.O.S. (Chairside Oral Scanner): As a partner laboratory with 3M, we have years of expertise in digital design. The COS partnership allows us to see the impression and mark the margins prior to the SLA models being produced for fabrication. This allows us to more accurately ensure that each scan provides the information we need to fabricate stunning restorations in any media.

  • Cadent iTeroStill Image – Cadent iTero: Similar to a video scanner, but is an intraoral camera device that takes individual shots to develop the 3D image from which superior polyurethane models are fabricated. The fabrication process achieved is significantly more accurate and predictable.
As with any protocol, it is important to identify the advantages and disadvantages of any system. There are so many advantages with eliminating traditional impression materials including patient comfort, virtual elimination of remakes, expedited seat visits due to superior fit of digital impression techniques that from a patient standpoint, there is not only clear advantages but a very marketable procedure.

Remaining a forerunner in technological advances to support our clients is a core commitment of Gold Dust.
